Overview

As we age, our skin loses fat and essential proteins – like collagen and elastin – which give structure to the face and make it look youthful, plump and bouncy. Fillers, sometimes called soft tissue fillers, are artificial gel-like substances designed to be injected beneath the surface of the skin to add volume and fullness.

Conditions ( That can be treated )

What are the conditions that can be treated with it?
  • Different types of dermal fillers are designed to treat varying signs of aging. Depending on the filler selected, they may: plump up thinning lips, fill in wrinkles like nose to mouth lines and lines between eyebrows, enhance or fill in shallow areas on the face, decrease or remove the shadow or wrinkle under the eyes caused by the lower eyelid, fill in or soften the look of depressed scars
  • wrinkles

Method ( How It Is Done? )

Face is cleaned and the areas where injections are to be given is marked. Fillers will be injected into the target area using a very fine needle which is then massaged. These needle pricks cause very little pain and most of the patients tolerate it very easily. Some patients who are very pain sensitive, a numbing cream can be applied over the face 30-40 minutes before the procedure. Multiple injections are needed in different places, depending on the area being treated.

The treatment usually takes between 20 and 30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

    FAQs

Is there any special preparation required before treatment? Can I have a treatment as the time of consultation
Yes. If you are a candidate, the doctor may be able to perform the procedure at the time of the consultation. If the procedure cannot be performed at the time of consultation, you can schedule one very soon after.
    Does it hurt ?
Pain is minimal, and you may only feel a little pinch. Injections are very quick and with a trained medical professional, you may not even notice when they happen. A numbing cream can be applied before the procedure if client is very pain sensitive.
What are the side effects of the procedure? Is it safe
Though fillers are very effective and safe in the hands of qualified and experienced doctors, serious side effects due to fillers is not an unknown entity especially when it is performed by inexperienced doctors or when poor quality products are used. There are reports where filler moved away from the intended treatment area, and later required surgical removal. There are also reports of fillers causing blockage of blood vessels causing tissue death or blindness. Therefore it is very important to check your doctor’s credentials and product specifications before undergoing filler treatment.
    When are the effects visible?
One of the reasons patients choose dermal fillers over other types of aesthetic improvement is that the results are immediate. Right after injections, you will start to see improvement but some fillers show maximum improvement by 1 month also.
