Laser Tattoo Removal.

Overview

Laser tattoo removal involves use of concentrated bursts of energy to heat up the ink beneath the skin, which breaks the ink into smaller particles. These smaller ink particles can then be eliminated naturally by the body’s own immune system.

FAQs

Is there any special preparation required before treatment? Can I have a treatment as the time of consultation
Yes. If you are a candidate, the doctor may be able to perform procedure at the time of the consultation. If the procedure cannot be performed at the time of consultation, you can schedule one very soon after.
How long does the treatment take?
Depending upon the size of tattoo, the duration of single session will be 10 minutes to one hour.
Does it hurt ?
LASER tattoo removal can feel uncomfortable or painful. To prevent discomfort and pain, a dermatologist can give you a numbing cream or shot.
What are the side effects of the procedure? Is it safe
If you go to a reputable professional referred by your doctor, there are minimal side effects to laser tattoo removal. Thanks to newer technology, treatment of tattoos with laser systems has become much more effective, AND SAFE

However, you should consider the following factors in your decision:
  • The tattoo removal site can become infected.
  • There is a slight chance that the treatment can leave a permanent scar. Some degree of skin discoloration is possible. The treated skin may either be paler than the surrounding skin (hypopigmentation) or darker than the surrounding skin (hyperpigmentation).
How many sessions are required? What is the treatment schedule
The typical course of treatment for is four to six sessions done at an interval of 6-8 weeks, but the number of sessions you’ll need largely depends on the depth of the tattoo, the types and colors of ink used, the color of skin to be treated, and the types of lasers used to eradicate it. Black, red, dark orange and dark blue tattoos will usually respond relatively quickly to laser treatments. People with fair skin and dark tattoos tend to have an easier time fading their ink than others, since the laser can specifically target the tattoo pigment more easily.
When are the effects visible? How long the effect last?
The response to lasers depend on depth of the tattoo, the types and colors of ink used, the color of skin to be treated, and the types of lasers used to eradicate it. Many people start to see their ink fade after 1-3 sittings appointments. Once the tattoois removed, the effects are permanent
Is there any special care required after the procedure?
Your skin may be red with a raised rash for a short while after treatment. Holding an ice pack to your skin may help. Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun. Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 1 week after a treatment. Cover the area with clothing and use a sunscreen with at least SPF30. You should avoid:
  • picking or scratching the scab
  • using perfumed products on the area for the first 48 hours
  • swimming and saunas until the scab has dropped off (they may slow the healing process)
When can I get back to work?
After your first laser treatment, your tattoo should appear slightly faded. More often than not, the surrounding skin will swell, itch, appear red, and possibly blister. An ointment will be applied to the treated area and covered with a bandage. To speed healing, the ointment should be applied a few times a day for several days. To reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation, avoid sun exposure (and wear a high-SPF sunscreen) while the skin heals.
